Get a 12-gauge brush and wrap some fine steel wool around it and chuck it in a power drill. Run it in the chamber for a minute. I had a 12ga 11-48 for a while and can tell you the frame is significantly larger on the 12ga. From the research I had done, I believe the 11-48 was the last 16ga Remington made on a 16 or 20ga frame. I think the 870's and the 1100's were all made on 12ga frames. My 11-48 16ga is very well balanced, weighs 6.75lbs and shoots wonderfully!

Just picked up my first shotgun. Well, first shotgun I've ever owned personally. 1953 Remington 11-48 12-gauge. Barrel has been shortened a few inches so there's no bead or choke but it's still accurate enough to instantly kill a nuisance bird at 40 yards (totally legal in my locality, don't worry) with some Federal #7 target shells.

There is the magazine spring on the magazine tube, a collar on the magazine tube with arrows on it (arrow is toward the muzzle) , a friction sleeve with a split in it then the barrel lug.
