I got to carpentry lvl 4 and was trying to make a rain collector. I kept looking for the recipe in the crafting dialog window but couldn't find it. But using the right click menu > carpentry > furniture > rain collector barrel, worked. So maybe it's not a "recipe" and it's just something you build . From my understanding, the bin also has to be outside, exposed to the weather. After that, you can use a sack to remove the fertilizer. I actually rarely bother to use the fertilizer though.
