To my understanding the drop rate of exotics is supposed to be 25% for Legend and 30% for Master Lost Sectors. I've done most of them on Legend but I did do several hours of Master for a few of them and I'd say my rate feels like 33-40% overall. The Lost Sector was designated to drop Helmets. We just got lucky like you. You can run them in a fireteam but exotics only drop on solo clears. You can get exotics, but they will not be that days slot specific nor does it have bad luck protection. To get slot specific and get guaranteed new items you have to run solo.
