If he's been dry-firing it, it's possible the firing pin is mushroomed slightly or the spot where the firing pin hits on the barrel is peened so there's a dent there now which reduces the force the firing pin can put on it to pinch the rim of the cartridge. Deburring the sharp edge will eliminate the firing pins breaking. A small drill bit a few sizes larger than the firing pin hole will work. That is normal on the 39A. The firing pin floats in the bolt and depending on how clean the channel is that the pin rides in it will sometimes keep the firing pin from moving freely. Sounds like the one that misfires pointed down needs a firing pin with that many rounds fired in it.
