At heart the 780 is a rugged R12. They perform pretty much identically. The 780 has a tougher casing, and more weather proofing but is noticeably heavier. It also uses a different battery – same sort as the MT1000 prism. I believe the 780 has no Sim card slot.

When I ordered mine, I simply went to the local Business Supply Store and ordered the stamp. I did not worry about dimensions. But taking measurements, I find from “point” to opposite “point”, I have 1.5-inches. From “flat” to opposite “flat”, I have 1.4-inches. So an 8-sided polygon in a 0.75-inch radius circle. Just my .02′.It is certainly possible to run an R8 base and R12 rover. But to really leverage the R12, the R8 needs to be observing all constellations. If not, you’ll still have the R12’s excellent RTK engine, but it’s going to be hampered without access to full GNSS. I probably wouldn’t spring for the R12 if I was going to be restricted to …
