My Supplement recommends Top Tier Diesel which is almost impossible to find nationwide and if Top Tier is not available "GM recommends the use of ACDelco Diesel Fuel Conditioner" GM naturally does not recommend other aftermarket additives. My prior diesel ownership was a 2011 VW Touareg with the 3.0L TDI.

The engine has a cold temperature high idle feature which elevates the. engine idle speed from base idle to 1050 to 1100 rpm for pickup models or 1200 rpm for van models. when outside temperatures are below 0 °C (32 °F), and the engine coolant temperature is below 65 °C (150 °F).I would never consider a LML after owning a L5P. $1500 to delete a Cummins or LML. $7,000 to delete an L5P. $3,000 to convert from a CP4 to CP3 on the LML. $700+ to level the GMC/Chevy compared to $100 to level the Ram. Dash MPG's aren't even remotely close except for the 400+ mile range which is about 1 mpg high.Regular maintenance needs to be documented at required intervals and you need to replace all external parts as needed but good piece of mind on internal failure. I had set the trip odometer the day I bought it and it's averaging almost 17, including some mild camper towing. Tank to tank I'm seeing better than 18 with regens.Excessive regens! I just picked up a new 2019 GMC 3500 Denali 2 weeks ago. It has the new L5P in it which I love the power and torque. I had a 13 LML and a 15 LML and the 13 I deleted emissions problems solved, the 15 I only had 38,000 on it when I just traded it and I never deleted it. Your Allison came with Dex-IV in it from GM, Dex-IV is a synthetic and a very good fluid. Doing a double drain is a waste of money personally. Change it to your fluid of choice and change it again 25k later. If you're going to deviate from Dex-IV pick and TES 668 fluid and sleep happy. It doesn't matter.

The L5p was a very small exhaust side configuration, small up pipes, small exhaust turbo vanes, etc. So I am guessing the ECM was seeing some very high EGT’s and cut power to keep from melting pistons. I am curious owning a 2021 L5P myself if anyone has had any serious issues with this engine. In doing research I find problems like NOX Sensors, DEF heaters / tanks, and injector electrical plugs, but that is about it.
