I've got a full storage locker of smart fabric and I have maybe a dozen silk generators. The most annoying part will be collecting the larva for the silk worms. My only real issue with auto crafters is that they're expensive to make at the stage you unlock them, by the time you can really afford to spam them everywhere, you're probably close to finished anyway. And you really need drones, and ideally T3 miners as well, to automate a lot of stuff.
